Description

"It blossoms when the temperature rises above 64 degrees F.  Because its flower's blooming changes with the temperature, it is sometimes used as a thermometer."
--from Pokémon Emerald

A model of the Pokémon Skiploom that I made in 2014.  She's 1 1/16 inches (2.7 cm) tall and 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) long.

This little critter was quite messy to make--I had to dye the felt for her ears, tail, and limbs with green acrylic paint so they would match the pom-pom I used for the body, since I didn't have the right color felt at the time.  I did have felt that was already green, but it didn't look very good because it was much too dark.  I included a sample of it in the first two pictures so you can see the difference.  I did try dyeing the pom-pom to match the felt at first; it worked, but it also made the pom-pom hard and un-fluffy.  (Perhaps I could use that method for Rock and Steel Type Pokemon...)  The flower on her head was also tricky to make; I had to figure out how to make the core the right size for all eight petals.  I also tried painting in the mouth at first, but it didn't look good because of how shaggy the pom-pom was, and so I used black felt to make it instead.  Her eyes on the other hand were relatively easy--I cut them out of red felt and drew the highlights in with white acrylic paint.

Despite all the mess and difficulties, Skiploom was really fun to make.  Dyeing the felt was fun, and the flower was like a little puzzle. :)

Skiploom and Pokémon belong to Nintendo.
